Matisse Apples & Silhouette Sunsets
The Kinders always love to paint, so we got out our tempera paints and and learned about color mixing, highlights and shadows, and composition. We also practiced the proper way to hold a paint brush so that the paint can properly flow from the brush to the paper. We started to talk about shapes (to reinforce what they are learning in there regular classroom) and how everything is just made up of simple shapes! Our next project is going to be all about shapes...stay tuned!
Working on the Sunset Silhouettes we took a break from using our paint brushes and had fun using sponges and cardboard as our tools. Can you tell where we used each? It was fun using non-traditional tools to create such a beautiful painting!

Line, Color & Pattern Flower
Kinders started their year exploring lines, patterns and color. This lesson was a wonderful opportunity to introduce Kinders to the building blocks of art making: line and color. They started the process by drawing a flower, then painted the flower and background with water color. The finishing touch was adding pattern and lines with oil pastels!
